Inscribed verso: Gold and Silver Fish in the Edison Pond, Menlo Park, N.J. The Edison Pond is located on the top of a hill from which the Orange Mountains can be seen in the distance. It has become so neglected during the last eight years, that its borders are all broken up with small shrubs and covered with tall grasses and weeds. The surface of the pond is covered with the bold and characteristic leaf and blossom of the cow or yellow lilly (sic), the leaf of which only assuming its angular character after growing above the surface of the water. It is as picturesque and decorative a spot as could well be imagined, and on a sunny day in April the gold fish with which Mr. Thomas A. Edison stocked the pond, can be seen in large numbers sunning themselves near the top of the water.
