We are pleased to offer for sale a number of works from the estate of Harry McChesney (American 1924-2012). Harry McChesney was a gifted painter, who was probably best known as a Diorama painter for the New York State Museum, Albany, New York. Harry specialized in plein air landscapes, often executed in the environs near his
home in Westerlo, as well as the Catskill Mountains, although he painted subjects as far ranging as Tybee Island, Georgia, and Rockport, Mass.
A native of Neptune, New Jersey, Harry was born in 1924. Harry graduated from Pratt Institute of Arts in Brooklyn, New York where he received the Society of Illustrators medal for Achievement in Illustration. Following his graduation, he continued his studies at Pratt Institute Evening School, where he studied with Walter Klett and Edgar A. Whitney, the latter whom he studied watercolor painting. Further studies continued in New York City with Frank Reilly.
Harry McChesney's works reflects the eye of an artist who loved the outdoors. His landscapes reflect the softness of his subjects, regardless of the time of year. Harry insisted on painting directly from nature, and as such, his work captured subtle moods found only in nature. We are pleased to offer for sale works from the estate of Harry McChesney and welcome your inquiries.
